With its former two-hatted chef returning after an absence of four years in the aid of charity, Colin Fassnidge’s degustation menu proved a huge winner at the Head and Neck Cancer Foundation fund-raising dinner at Paddington’s Four In Hand Hotel on July 25 – timed two days ahead of World Head and Neck Cancer Day.
Having overseen the re-creation of his legendary dishes, paired with wines selected by prominent vigneron Neil McGuigan, the My Kitchen Rules star was afforded ringing approval from the 50 guests who forked out $500 a head to support the charity event which raised $100,000 for the Foundation.
The dinner was attended by Head and Neck Cancer Foundation chairman Professor Thomas Havas and fellow directors John Fordham, Dr Ian Jacobson, Dr Catherine Meller, Nick Fordham, Vince Lagana and Anthony Jefferies. Other head and neck specialists in attendance were Dr Julia Crawford, Dr Chris Lehane, Dr Ravjit Singh and the Foundation’s current Research Fellow Dr Anders Sideris.
With 2GB and Nine Network host Ben Fordham acting as MC and auctioneer, the audience responded magnificently, committing $49,000 for the five auction items offered. The top auction result was $15,000 for an all-expenses day at the Phillip Island race track at the wheel of a Maserati, donated by dealership owner, former Sydney to Hobart winner and throat cancer survivor Neville Crichton.
